Description

The Office of Behavioral Health Promotion & Prevention (OBHPP) within the Massachusetts Department of Mental Health intends to launch a new, multi‑year grant program that will fund community‑based organizations to design, implement, and evaluate behavioral‑health promotion and prevention projects aligned with several priority focus areas. The grant will be open‑ended, with up to $3 million available each fiscal year and an anticipated program lifespan of ten years. Applicants must be Massachusetts‑based nonprofit or public entities with proven experience in delivering evidence‑based health‑equity programs and robust evaluation. Preference will be given to projects serving AHEM‑identified priority communities, offering multilingual services, and forming partnerships between larger inter‑sectoral bodies and smaller grassroots groups. • Funding: ≈ $3 million per fiscal year, award amounts variable. • Eligibility: Massachusetts community‑based nonprofits or public entities with relevant program and evaluation experience. • Scope: Grants for projects addressing one or two of seven priority health‑impact objectives, requiring logic‑model development, implementation, reporting, and public‑facing dissemination. • Timeline: First Request for Applications expected Fall 2025; a webinar for Q&A is slated for September 2025.

Budget estimate

$100,000 – $500,000

The notice indicates up to $3 million will be available each fiscal year, but individual award sizes are not defined. Based on typical state grant award ranges for community health programs, a single award could reasonably fall between $100,000 and $500,000, depending on project scope, partnership structure, and available funding. Therefore a plausible budget estimate for a successful applicant is $100k–$500k per award.
