The National Park Service intends to award a task agreement under a previously competed or single source master cooperative agreement to the Oxnard Union High School District for the project titled "Youth Restoration Project on the Channel Islands." The project aims to educate local students about the significant cultural and natural resources of Channel Islands National Park and involve them in high-priority island restoration projects. The project will provide students with an opportunity for interactive, place-based learning, making park science and resource management activities relevant and meaningful. The tasks involved in the project include removing non-native plants, planting and watering native plants, and assisting in the on-island and mainland greenhouses.
• The project will be carried out over a period of 24 months, from September 1, 2019, to June 30, 2021.
• Approximately 525 students will participate in the project, helping to plant 4,000 native plants and maintain them throughout the life of the project.
• The National Park Service will provide work plans, educational programs, and necessary tools for the project, while the Oxnard Union High School District will be responsible for student supervision, transportation, and other logistical arrangements.
• The project will support the National Park Service's conservation and education goals, and provide students with unique learning opportunities and potential career paths in science and resource management.
