Description

The US Government is seeking information from domestic sheet metal manufacturers with agile manufacturing capabilities to fabricate production-quality steel ammunition containers. The goal is to reduce prototype and Low-Rate Initial Production (LRIP) lead times in support of the 6.8mm ammunition packaging development effort. The Government is looking for capabilities to fabricate approximately 50 sheet metal prototypes by June 2026 and approximately 100 final prototypes by January 2027, as well as manufacture approximately 10,000 containers per month. Key requirements include achieving a +/-3 psig seal and accommodating novel manufacturing processes. • The containers must be made of steel and have a specific design, with variations in sheet gauge thickness and other components. • The manufacturer must be able to produce approximately 50 prototypes by June 2026 and 100 final prototypes by January 2027. • The manufacturer must be able to produce approximately 10,000 containers per month, with the first delivery due in Q4FY27. • The containers must be capable of achieving a +/-3 psig seal, which will rely on proper placement of the hasp on the container body and quality control measures. • Minor design changes may be recommended to accommodate novel manufacturing processes.

Budget estimate

$1,000,000 – $10,000,000

The budget for this opportunity is difficult to estimate, as it is a Request for Information and not a solicitation. However, based on the requirements, it can be assumed that the budget will be substantial, as the Government is seeking to manufacture approximately 10,000 containers per month. The budget may be influenced by factors such as the cost of materials, labor, and manufacturing processes. A rough estimate could be in the range of $1 million to $10 million per year, depending on the specifics of the agreement.
