Description

This opportunity invites interested parties to license a newly developed, room‑temperature electrochemical process for producing metallic rare‑earth elements (REEs) without the high‑energy, hazardous fused‑salt methods currently in use. The technology leverages novel electrolyte chemistry and interfacial structuring to enable scalable, low‑energy REE electrodeposition, potentially opening a domestic supply chain for critical materials used in magnets, defense systems, aerospace alloys, electronics, and advanced batteries. • Provides a low‑energy, low‑hazard alternative to conventional 600‑1200 °C molten‑salt electrolysis. • Targets multiple REEs (e.g., neodymium, samarium, dysprosium, terbium) with a platform that can be adapted for various industrial applications. • Licensing can support U.S. manufacturers and defense contractors seeking to reduce reliance on imported REE sources and lower environmental compliance costs.

Budget estimate

$200,000 – $2,000,000

The licensing model will likely involve upfront royalty payments, milestone fees, and ongoing royalty percentages on product sales. Given the high strategic value of domestic REE production for defense and high‑tech sectors, an initial licensing fee could range from a few hundred thousand dollars to multiple millions, with annual royalties potentially adding several million more. A reasonable estimate for the total financial benefit to the licensor (our client) would be between $200,000 and $2,000,000 over the first few years.
