Overlay and Chip Hwy 43 East/Chief Joseph Missoula Area

The Montana Department of Transportation is seeking a qualified contractor to perform an overlay and chip‑seal rehabilitation of approximately four miles of Highway 43 east of Chief Joseph in the Missoula area. The work includes cold‑milling the existing pavement, placing a ½‑in. commercial plant mix overlay, applying chip‑seal (tack coat, chips, reflective tabs), and a fog‑seal finish. Quantities are estimated and the contractor is responsible for all labor, equipment, material supply, traffic control, testing, and disposal of milled material. The contract will be awarded under standard state and MDT terms, with a bid‑security requirement for bids ≥ $150,000 and mandatory registration with the Montana Department of Labor & Industry. • 8,072 tons of ½‑in. commercial plant mix (Grade S PG 58H‑34) to be placed 0.20 ft thick. • 61,013 square yards of cold milling (average depth 0.20 ft) and matching chip‑seal application (≈ 61,013 SY). • Additional items: Type 1 chips, CSS‑1H fog‑seal, liquid emulsified asphalt, test‑trailer transport, mobilization, and traffic‑control services. • Work may not commence until 1 July 2026 and must be completed by 10 June 2027, giving an approximate 11‑month project window.
