Description

The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) seeks to establish a course to equip researchers studying drug use, drug misuse, and drug addiction with the skills, knowledge, and practical tools needed to translate their scientific discoveries into impactful real-world solutions. The course will focus on building capacity in product development, entrepreneurship, and innovation pathways. The funding opportunity announcement seeks applications from eligible organizations to apply for a Limited Competition grant. The award is expected to support educational activities with a primary focus on courses for skills development and curriculum or methods development. The Principal Investigator must be from the school of business or entrepreneurship, with multidisciplinary collaboration strongly encouraged. • The course should focus on early-stage innovation endeavors, preparing drug addiction researchers to recognize the potential of their research ideas and critically assess them for viable product development opportunities. • The course should utilize business ideation tools to evaluate the market and understand paths to commercialization. • The course should perform customer discovery, establish intellectual property protections, develop approaches to regulatory considerations, understand the reimbursement landscape, source capital, and generate revenue. • The award recipient will have primary responsibility for leading the outreach and networking efforts for the program, developing a curriculum, coordinating and participating with NIDA staff in all aspects of the program's management, collaborating and communicating effectively with NIDA staff to achieve project goals, presenting updates during conference calls with NIDA staff, and adhering to NIH policies.
