APDES Draft Individual Permit AK0021431 – Valdez Wastewater Treatment Facility

The Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation is seeking public comments on a draft individual permit for the Valdez Wastewater Treatment Facility. The permit would allow the facility to discharge secondary treated domestic wastewater into Port Valdez at a maximum daily rate of 2.5 million gallons per day. A mixing zone is proposed for total ammonia as nitrogen, total residual chlorine, copper, fecal coliform, enterococci, dissolved oxygen, temperature, and whole effluent toxicity. * The public comment period is from December 30, 2025, to January 29, 2026. * Comments can be submitted electronically or by mail to the DEC contact/permit writer. * The DEC will consider all comments when making the final decision and will respond to comments in a Response to Comments document. * A public hearing may be held if there is significant public interest or if it would clarify issues involved in the permit decision.
