Description

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is preparing to issue a solicitation for the Maintenance Dredging of Fire Island Inlet and Shores Westerly to Jones Inlet, New York Beach Erosion Control and Navigation Project. The purpose of the proposed work is to alleviate the effects of shoaling and maintain the authorized project dimensions, thereby providing safe and economical use of the Fire Island Inlet by commercial and recreational boating interests while providing beneficial use of the dredged material. The project will require maintenance dredging of the channel and deposition basin at Fire Island Inlet, which is usually accomplished by pipeline dredge. The anticipated magnitude of construction is between $25 million and $100 million, and the duration of construction will be approximately 165 calendar days after Notice to Proceed. • The project will require multiple construction contractors and/or subcontractors employing workers in multiple crafts or trades. • The project may be impacted by skilled labor shortages in the area. • The use of a Project Labor Agreement (PLA) is being considered to promote economy and efficiency in federal procurement. • The Government is inviting comments on the use of PLAs, including their benefits and drawbacks, and any other factors that may be relevant to the project.

$25,000,000 – $100,000,000

The budget for this project is estimated to be between $25 million and $100 million, based on the anticipated magnitude of construction. This estimate is based on the fact that the project will require significant maintenance dredging of the channel and deposition basin at Fire Island Inlet, which is a complex and costly process.
