Disposition & Development of Former Taylor School

The City of New Bedford is soliciting proposals from qualified developers for the disposition and development of the former William H. Taylor School, a 2.0421-acre parcel located in a mixed-use business district. The property consists of a 36,088 square foot building situated on the site, which is currently vacant. The City's objective is for the rehabilitation and adaptive reuse of the property in a manner that creates housing units consistent with the Building New Bedford housing plan, contributes positively to the neighborhood, and generates property tax revenue. • The property is zoned Mixed Use Business (MUB), which allows single, two, and multifamily residential use as well as various commercial uses. • The City encourages proposals that make full use of the entire site and have a positive impact on the surrounding area. • Proposers must demonstrate their capacity to acquire and develop the property in accordance with the terms and conditions of the RFP. • The City recommends that developers consider utilizing Historic Tax Credits and adhere to the Secretary of the Interior's Standards for Rehabilitation.
