The County of Los Angeles, Internal Services Department is seeking quotations for custom leather helmet shields for structural firefighting helmets. The shields must be brand-specific, with no substitutions allowed, and must meet specific requirements, including size, material, and color. The shields are an important aspect of the Personal Accountability Reporting System utilized on fire grounds and are required by NFPA as part of the PPE ensemble for firefighters.
Key requirements include:
• Custom leather helmet shield for structural firefighting helmets
• Brand: Conway Shield, Model: SHIELD-LA, LACoFD Style
• Shield to be 5 3/16” Wide and 6” High shaped per attached silhouette
• Constructed of 5-5 ½ oz genuine cowhide leather, chrome tanned, color dyed throughout
• Color options: Black, White, Red, Blue, Green, Orange, and Yellow
• Layers to be glued and sewn together using No. 92 Bonded polyester thread at 8 stitches per inch
• Shield to have top cut out arched panel 9/16” wide and a straight bottom panel 9/16 wide and 3” long
• Lettering within each panel to be printed on 3M Scotchcal vinyl film
• Choice of vinyl colors, background, and text to include but not limited to: White, Black, Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue
• Center options of shield to include sewn-on leather numbers or medallions per attached selection sheet
• Shield to include 4, 3/16” diameter mounting holes on a 1 ½” x 4” center to center bolt pattern
