The USS America (LHA 6) is undergoing a major maintenance and modernization period, known as a CNO Availability. As part of this availability, the ship's High-Pressure Air Compressor (HPAC) system needs to be overhauled. The overhaul is a critical path item, and any delays will impact the overall delivery schedule. The work is scheduled to be performed from 20 April 2026 through July 2026. • The HPAC system overhaul is not a standalone task and must be sequenced into narrow windows of opportunity between other critical path jobs. • The incumbent contractor, National Steel and Shipbuilding Company (NASSCO), is the only source capable of performing this work within the required windows. • The contract action is a sole source contract to add one new work item to the existing contract N00024-25-C-4404. • The work is critical to the Navy's fleet readiness, and any delays will have significant schedule risks.
