The John H. Prescott Marine Mammal Rescue Assistance Grant Program provides federal assistance to eligible members of the National Marine Mammal Stranding Network and collaborators to support basic needs of organizations for the response, treatment, and data collection from living and dead stranded marine mammals, fund scientific research objectives, and support facility operations directly related to the recovery, treatment, and data collection from living and dead stranded marine mammals. The program has two categories of funding priorities: Category A for marine mammal health, stranding, entanglement response, and rehabilitation scientific objectives, and Category B for support of basic and enhancement needs of organizations for the response, treatment, rehabilitation, and data collection from living and dead stranded or entangled marine mammals. Some key areas of focus include improving understanding of health and health trends in marine mammal populations, developing new tools and treatments for stranded or entangled marine mammals, and enhancing regional and trans-regional logistical support for response to living and dead large whale stranding or entanglement events.
• Eligible applicants include authorized participants or researchers in the National Marine Mammal Stranding Network or Entanglement Response Network.
• The program encourages applicants to support diversity and inclusion in their proposals and performing their work.
• The program has a strong focus on marine mammal health, stranding response, and rehabilitation.
