Description

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Science Mission Directorate (SMD) has released its annual omnibus Research Announcement (NRA), Research Opportunities in Space and Earth Sciences (ROSES) – 2023. This program element, High Priority Open-Source Science, is one of the individual program elements within ROSES. Proposals may be submitted at any time, pending certain eligibility timing issues related to resubmissions and duplicate proposal avoidance. Awards will be made as grants, cooperative agreements, contracts, and inter- or intra-agency transfers, depending on the nature of the work proposed. The typical period of performance for an award is three years, but some programs may allow up to five years and others specify shorter periods. • Proposers must retrieve the instructions document (zip file) associated with the application package for this opportunity. • Proposers must be affiliated with an institution at nspires.nasaprs.com/ and, in general, NASA provides funding only to US institutions. • Organizations outside the U.S. that propose on the basis of a policy of no-exchange-of-funds; consult the NASA Guidebook for Proposers for specific details. • Technical questions concerning specific program elements should be directed to the point(s) of contact for that particular element.

Budget estimate

$200,000 – $5,000,000

The budget amount for this opportunity is not specified, but based on the nature of the research and the fact that awards will be made as grants, cooperative agreements, contracts, and inter- or intra-agency transfers, the budget amount could range from a few hundred thousand dollars to several million dollars. The actual budget amount will depend on the specific proposal, the scope of work, and the requirements of the project. Factors that may influence the likely payment range include the complexity of the research, the number of personnel involved, and the duration of the project.
