The National Park Service intends to award a single-source justified cooperative agreement to American YouthWorks for the repair, restoration, and maintenance of approximately 9 miles of backcountry hiking trails at Guadalupe Mountains National Park. The project aims to provide opportunities for youth to learn about the environment and contribute to the improvement of a cultural and natural resource area. The National Park Service will provide orientation, oversight, and necessary equipment for the project.
Key aspects of the project include:
• Repairing and restoring trail treads
• Maintaining drainage and erosion control devices
• Rehabilitating campsites
• Providing education and training to youth workers
• Promoting teamwork and self-confidence among youth participants
