Description

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) is seeking a sub-award to the Space Science Institute to study dust lifting on Mars. The project aims to quantify and distinguish the two major types of dust lifting on Mars, specifically straight-line wind stress dust lifting and dust devils. The contractor will participate in Mars Science Laboratory (MSL) mission operations, analyze Navcam imagery and REMS observations, and present scientific results to the MSL science team and the broader scientific community. The work will be performed at the Space Science Institute facilities in Boulder, CO, from October 1, 2026, to September 30, 2028. Key responsibilities include: • Participating in MSL mission operations and science planning • Analyzing Navcam imagery and REMS observations for dust lifting • Presenting scientific results to the MSL science team and the broader scientific community • Supporting the presentation of scientific results in scientific publications

Budget estimate

$500,000 – $2,000,000

The budget for this opportunity is not explicitly stated in the document. However, based on the scope of work, which includes participating in MSL mission operations, analyzing Navcam imagery and REMS observations, and presenting scientific results, it can be estimated that the budget will be in the range of $500,000 to $2,000,000. This estimate is based on the assumption that the work will require a team of researchers and scientists to perform the duties outlined in the statement of work, and that the cost of their time and resources will be factored into the budget. Additionally, the fact that the project is a sub-award to the Space Science Institute and will be performed over a period of two years also supports this estimate.
