The Species Recovery Grants to States (Section 6 Program) provides funding to support the development and implementation of conservation programs for listed marine and anadromous species. The program aims to work cooperatively with states to conserve and recover species listed as endangered or threatened under the Endangered Species Act (ESA). Eligible applicants include state agencies that have entered into an agreement with the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) pursuant to section 6(c) of the ESA.
• The program supports conservation activities for listed species, including development and implementation of management efforts, scientific research, and public education and outreach.
• Proposals should address priority actions in ESA Recovery Plans or Recovery Outlines.
• Funding can be used to support conservation activities for any endangered or threatened species, as well as monitoring candidate species, recently delisted species, and species proposed for listing under the ESA.
• The program does not support proposals focusing on Pacific salmonids or marine mammals stranding response and/or rehabilitation.
