Description

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) is seeking proposals for the development of an Advanced Spacesuit Regulator (ASR). The ASR is a critical component of the spacesuit life support system, responsible for regulating the pressure and flow of oxygen to the astronaut. The proposed ASR must meet specific requirements, including a pressure transducer drift not exceeding 0.05% over a calibration period of 6 years, and a position sensor capable of reporting spring compression/location to an accuracy of ±1% of stroke. The proposal must also include a technical library request form for obtaining access to export-controlled content. • The ASR must include a piston-based outlet sense or alternate methodologies (bellows, diaphragm, etc.) can be considered. • The pressure transducer drift shall not exceed 0.05% in the calibration period. • The ASR shall include a position sensor capable of reporting spring compression/location to an accuracy of ±1% of stroke. • The regulator must be responsive (via feedback control of the actuator) to inlet pressure and temperature conditions to ensure that the tight regulation band can be maintained. • The motor can be up to 28V, but power consumption cannot exceed 5.8W.

Budget estimate

$500,000 – $5,000,000

Based on the complexity and specificity of the requirements, the budget for this contract could be substantial. Considering the development of a critical component for the spacesuit life support system, the estimated budget could range from $500,000 to $5 million. This estimate is influenced by the fact that NASA is a major government agency with significant budget allocations for space exploration and development.
