The North American Wetlands Conservation Act (NAWCA) provides funding for wetlands conservation projects in Canada. The program promotes partnerships between public agencies and groups interested in protecting, improving, restoring, and managing wetland ecosystems and associated habitats for migratory birds and other wildlife. Proposals should demonstrate how the activities of partners would encourage sustainable and effective programs for the long-term conservation of wetlands-associated migratory birds.
• The NAWCA funds wetlands conservation projects that include the acquisition of property containing wetlands ecosystems and associated habitats, and/or restoration, enhancement, or management of wetlands ecosystems and associated habitats.
• Proposals must have at least a one-to-one ratio of matching funds to the NAWCA funds requested.
• The program supports climate resilience, land conservation, and biodiversity efforts, and leverages partnerships.
• The NAWCA Canada program is administered by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and the Canadian Wildlife Service is the primary contact for Canadian proposals.
