The Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) is seeking proposals for fundamental research in chemical and biological defense. The agency is looking for innovative solutions to counter weapons of mass destruction (WMD) and to develop new technologies to detect and respond to chemical and biological threats. The research should focus on advancing knowledge in physical and life sciences to defend and counter chemical and biological WMD. The proposals should describe the research, development, and demonstration of the technology, and should include a detailed plan for the research, including the methodology, expected outcomes, and potential risks and challenges. The proposals should also include a budget and a timeline for the research.
Some of the key areas of research include:
• Development of improved detection devices for traditional and nontraditional chemical agents
• Development of diagnostics for existing and emerging infectious disease threats
• Development of new or improved medical and material countermeasures to CB threats
• Enhanced personal protection against CB threats
• Providing effective elimination strategies via non-kinetic approaches for threat agent destruction, neutralization and/or sequestration
The agency is looking for proposals that demonstrate a significant contribution to the current body of knowledge, to the understanding of phenomena and observable facts, to significantly advance revolutionary technology, to new concepts for technology application, or that may have impact on future C-WMD threat reduction, expertise, or capabilities.
