The Rural Postsecondary and Economic Development Grant Program aims to improve postsecondary enrollment, persistence, and completion rates among rural students by developing career pathways aligned with high-skill, high-wage, and in-demand industry sectors. The program will provide funding to institutions of higher education and nonprofit organizations to support workforce development programs, career and college exploration opportunities, and other initiatives that promote economic growth and development in rural areas. Some key priorities of the program include providing work-based learning opportunities, supporting the development of new high-quality, short-term programs, and expanding access to Registered Apprenticeships. The program also encourages applicants to propose bold, results-oriented initiatives that align postsecondary education with regional workforce needs and deliver measurable gains in completion and employment outcomes.
• The program has three absolute priorities, including serving rural communities, providing work-based learning opportunities, and supporting workforce development programs.
• The program also has a competitive preference priority for projects that will be carried out by entities identified, designated, or endorsed by a Governor or chief State education official.
• Applicants must submit their applications electronically through Grants.gov, and the application must include a project narrative, budget narrative, and other supporting documents.
• The program will provide an estimated $45,000,000 in funding, with individual awards ranging from $1,500,000 to $2,500,000 over a 48-month period.
