The U.S. Department of State’s Consulate General Toronto is announcing an open competition to implement a program that provides Canadian university students with a short-term study tour in the United States. The program aims to foster a deeper understanding of America’s founding history and values among future Canadian leaders. The study tour will include visits to locations of historical significance, cultural and educational institutions, and lectures by U.S. experts. Participants will develop a project after completing the study tour to amplify their learning and share it with a broader Canadian audience. The target audience is Canadian citizens studying American Studies, history, political science, or other relevant fields at the undergraduate or graduate level. Key aspects of the program include:
• A study tour to key sites in the United States related to America’s founding history and values
• Lectures and discussions by U.S. experts on American history, federalism, and the U.S. Constitution
• A follow-on project for student participants to amplify their learning and share it with a broader Canadian audience
• A focus on cultivating a cohort of future Canadian leaders with a positive view of the United States
The program has the following objectives:
• Knowledge Acquisition: Improve participants’ understanding of American history and leadership
• Network Development: Increase participants’ meaningful interactions with U.S. interlocuters to deepen ties between the two countries
• Policy Impact: Deepen U.S. Mission to Canada relationships with emerging Canadian leaders who will influence Canadian government policy, foreign policy, and education
