Description

The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) is seeking information from Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) vaccine manufacturers to improve its FMD vaccine preparedness. The USDA aims to acquire sufficient quantities of vaccine or long-term vaccine precursor storage forms to support response activities in the case of a United States FMD outbreak. The ideal manufacturer should be able to produce vaccine or vaccine precursor targeting current and/or previously circulating FMD topotypes, have sufficient resources to rapidly generate a vaccine or vaccine precursor for novel topotypes, and have the capacity for ongoing vaccine or vaccine precursor production in the face of an outbreak. • The vaccine or vaccine precursor should target one or more of the top ten FMD topotypes posing the highest risk to the United States. • The vaccine or vaccine precursor storage should have a usable shelf life, preferably with prolonged shelf life. • The vaccine should meet minimum threshold potency requirements. • The vaccine should be either licensed or permitted by the USDA Center for Veterinary Biologics (CVB) for distribution and sale within the United States. • The vaccine should have a reasonable expectation to be safe and effective in multiple target species.

Budget estimate

$1,000,000 – $10,000,000

The budget for this opportunity is difficult to estimate as the document does not provide a specific amount. However, considering the scope of the project, which involves acquiring sufficient quantities of FMD vaccine or vaccine precursor storage forms, the budget could be substantial. The USDA's budget for the National Animal Vaccine and Veterinary Countermeasures Bank (NAVVCB) and the existing FMD vaccine stockpile could be a factor in determining the budget. A rough estimate could be in the range of $1 million to $10 million, depending on the quantity and type of vaccine or vaccine precursor required.
