Description

The BJS FY25 Consolidated National Criminal History Improvement Program aims to improve the nation's safety and security by enhancing the quality, completeness, and accessibility of criminal history record information. The program has three main components: NCHIP, NCHIP SF BSCA, and NARIP. NCHIP focuses on improving the accuracy and completeness of criminal history records, while NCHIP SF BSCA aims to reduce violent crime and address gun violence by improving the accuracy and utility of criminal-history and related records. NARIP provides grants to assist states, state court systems, and tribal governments in updating the FBI's National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) with certain mental health, protection and restraining order, domestic violence conviction, and other criminal history record information. • The program has an estimated funding of $135,000,000. • The award ceiling is $2,410,714. • The award floor is $0. • The program is expected to fund 56 awards. • Eligible applicants include state governments, Native American tribal governments, and others (see text field entitled "Additional Information on Eligibility" for clarification).
