Fiscal Year (FY) 2025 Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) Grant Program

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) Grant Programs Directorate is implementing and administering the Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) Grants. SAFER grants provide financial assistance to help fire departments increase frontline firefighters. The grants support activities in two areas: hiring of firefighters and recruitment and retention of volunteer firefighters. • The authority for SAFER is derived from Section 34 of the Federal Fire Prevention and Control Act of 1974. • The estimated funding for this grant program is $324,000,000. • The applicant eligibility includes fire departments, national, state, local, or federally recognized tribal organizations representing the interests of volunteer firefighters. • The cost sharing is not required for this grant. • The funding activity category is Disaster and Community Preparedness.
