The Regional Wildfire & Landscape Resilience Grants program aims to accelerate landscape-scale, regionally appropriate activities that are consistent with the California Climate Bond’s goals to strengthen local capacity, improve landscape health and resilience, and reduce wildfire risk to communities. The program will follow a two-phase application process, with concept proposals due by June 30, 2026. Eligible activities include regionally appropriate landscape resilience, community hazardous fuels reduction or modification, prescribed and cultural fire, pest management, reforestation and revegetation, biomass utilization, and maintenance of and/or improvements to previously established and completed wildfire and landscape resilience projects. Eligible applicants include public agencies, local agencies, nonprofit organizations, special districts, joint powers authorities, tribes, public utilities, local publicly owned utilities, and mutual water companies.
• Eligible geographies: Projects are encouraged to occur across multiple landownerships.
• Matching funding requirement: Match is not required but projects will be scored higher if they leverage CAL FIRE funds with other state, federal, local, and/or private/philanthropic investments.
• Funding priorities: Multi-benefit projects, applicants with demonstrated administrative, technical, and operational capacity, projects that leverage CAL FIRE funds with other investments, and projects that advance regional capacity to develop, prioritize, and implement wildfire and landscape resilience projects.
