The National Park Service intends to award a task agreement under a previously competed or single source master cooperative agreement for the Post Carr Fire Burned Hazard Tree and Vegetation Removal and Structure Stabilization at Whiskeytown National Recreation Area project. The project aims to mitigate hazards that developed after the Carr Fire, which burned 100% of Whiskeytown National Recreation Area's 42,500 acres. The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) will assist in felling, bucking, piling, burning, and chipping burned trees, slash, and vegetation along park roadways and around administrative buildings, while providing structure protection and defensible space. The project will also include filling sand bags to direct high water events away from structures.
• The project will focus on the mitigation of existing hazards and the conservation and protection of natural resources within Whiskeytown National Recreation Area.
• CAL FIRE conservation crews will assist in the removal of burned trees, slash, and vegetation.
• The project will provide training, work experience, and the opportunity for inmates to develop a greater understanding of the natural resources of Whiskeytown National Recreation Area.
• The National Park Service will provide staff to oversee tasks and ensure they are completed to NPS standards.
• The project is expected to improve safety and allow park staff to address new hazards as they arise.
