Description

The United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) is conducting market research to identify possible sources for a low-cost mesh radio that can operate in contested environments. The radio should have physical dimensions less than 35 inches, weigh less than 9 ounces, and have a rechargeable internal power source. It should also be capable of operating 12 nodes in a single mesh network, have a battery life of 8 hours when transmitting 1 text message or location update per hour, and be able to send free-text messages and pre-defined messages. The radio should also have data encryption using AES-256 encryption and a transmission latency of no greater than 10 seconds. Some key features and requirements of the low-cost mesh radio include: • Physical dimensions less than 35 inches • Weight less than 9 ounces • Rechargeable internal power source • Capable of operating 12 nodes in a single mesh network • Battery life of 8 hours when transmitting 1 text message or location update per hour • Free-text messaging and pre-defined messaging capabilities • Data encryption using AES-256 encryption • Transmission latency of no greater than 10 seconds

Budget estimate

$100,000 – $500,000

The document does not specify a budget amount, but based on the system requirements and performance parameters mentioned, it can be estimated that the budget amount will be in the range of $100,000 to $500,000. This estimation is based on the assumption that the low-cost mesh radio will be a relatively small and simple system, but it will still require significant research and development to meet the specified requirements. The actual budget amount may be higher or lower, depending on the complexity of the system, the number of units required, and other factors.
