The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is seeking bids for the planting of native emergent plants, specifically sawgrass, within the Steamboat Marsh on Lake Okeechobee. The project aims to restore the sawgrass population, which has declined due to changes in hydrology and encroachment of invasives. The successful bidder will be responsible for supplying and planting the sawgrass plants, with the contract being awarded to the responsive, responsible bidder who submits the lowest bid price per plant. The project is expected to commence in the spring of 2026, with a completion date of 14 days after the start date. Some key requirements include:
• The contractor shall provide 2” and 4” liners of sawgrass as specified in the planting procedures.
• The contractor shall ensure that the sawgrass plants arrive at the planting area in the appropriate size containers.
• The contractor shall replace any plants that do not conform to industry standards or appear in poor condition.
• The contractor shall coordinate and conduct the planting operation under the direct daily supervision of designated FWC personnel.
• The contractor shall provide a price-per-plant for each liner size, with the award going to the responsive, responsible bidder that submits the lowest total bid price for both liner sizes combined.
