Description

The United States Air Force is conducting market research to identify sources capable of providing outboard submersible motors for Combat Rubber Raiding Crafts (CRRCs). The current engine fleet is nearing the end of its service life, and the Air Force is seeking a next-generation CRRC boat and engine system that enhances operational capabilities. The system must improve upon the current CRRC system by providing increased speed, maneuverability, reliability, and the ability to operate effectively in adverse weather conditions. Key performance parameters include propulsion power, submergibility and dewatering, survivability, and fuel efficiency. Some key points to consider: • The engine must propel the CRRC to a speed of 15 kts or greater with a Beaufort Wind Force 3 direct headwind. • The engine must be able to be dewatered, started, and operated/steered by 1 Operator. • The engine must operate on mixed-gasoline (2-Stroke) fuel and have a manual backup starting method. • The engine must withstand being packed for at least 3 months without leaking oil/fluids and meet performance requirements. • The engine must weigh 180lbs or less and have a subdued, non-reflective color.

Budget estimate

$1,000,000 – $10,000,000

Given the information provided, it's difficult to estimate the exact budget for this opportunity. However, considering the scope of the project, which involves the development and procurement of a next-generation outboard submersible motor for CRRCs, the budget could potentially be in the range of $1 million to $10 million. The factors influencing this estimate include the complexity of the engine development, the number of units required (initially 2, with a full operational capability of 90), and the potential for future procurement of additional units. Additionally, the cost of development, testing, and integration of the new motor with the CRRC system could also impact the overall budget.
