Description

The Missile Defense Agency (MDA) is seeking innovative prototype concepts for the Forward Based Mode (FBM) Radar Next. The primary objective of this effort is to design and prototype a highly mobile, rapidly deployable sensor system that enhances the integrated missile defense architecture against complex, high-speed, and maneuverable threats. The system must be capable of rapid deployment and transport via C-17 military airlift and tactical ground vehicles, and demonstrate rapid setup and teardown times. The prototype solutions are expected to address key performance and operational characteristics such as mobility and transportability, rapid emplacement and displacement, advanced threat detection and tracking, remote operations, flexible aperture configuration, open systems architecture, interoperability, survivability, and producibility and affordability. • The system must be capable of rapid deployment and transport via C-17 military airlift and tactical ground vehicles. • The radar must demonstrate rapid setup and teardown times. • The system must support remote operations, command and control integration, and automated system health monitoring. • The radar system must support versatile deployment architectures, with the capability to operate either as a highly integrated single aperture or as multiple distributed arrays. • The system design must prioritize manufacturing ease, design-for-manufacturing-and-assembly (DFMA) principles, and cost-efficiency.

Budget estimate

$10,000,000 – $100,000,000

The budget for this opportunity is difficult to estimate because the document does not provide a specific budget or funding amount. However, considering the complexity and scope of the project, which involves the development of a highly mobile and rapidly deployable sensor system, the budget could be substantial. The project requires significant research and development, testing, and evaluation, which can be costly. Additionally, the project's goal is to enhance the integrated missile defense architecture, which suggests that the budget could be in the tens or even hundreds of millions of dollars. Factors that may influence the likely payment range include the complexity of the system, the number of prototypes required, and the duration of the project.
