NOAA/OMAO/PAE - C-130J Hercules Vertically Scanning Doppler Radar Transmitter System

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is seeking a sole-source contract for the design and production of up to 21 Solid State Power Amplifiers (SSPAs) in support of a newly developed Vertically Scanning Doppler Radar (VSDR) on NOAA's forthcoming fleet of C-130J aircraft. The SSPA is a critical subcomponent of the radar system, providing the backbone of the system and transforming electrical power into high-power pulsed signals. The contractor will be required to modify the existing G550 design to meet the environmental, stress, and load environment of the outer wing station 330 (OWS 330) installation location. The key performance parameters of the radar system include transmitting and receiving signals through at least 50 km of high reflectivity storms. • The contractor must have experience in designing and producing SSPAs for radar systems. • The contractor must be able to modify the existing G550 design to meet the unique requirements of the C-130J aircraft. • The contractor must be able to provide a high-power, small pulse, and accurate excitation to the radar system. • The contractor must be able to provide a transmitter that can operate in a severe environment and meet the key performance parameters of the radar system.
