Description

NASA's Technology Transfer Program is seeking companies interested in obtaining license rights to commercialize, manufacture, and market a newly developed lightweight, self-deployable helical antenna. The antenna is designed for small spacecraft and offers high data rate communications with low mass and volume. Key features of the antenna include its self-deployable design, low stowage thickness, and high gain performance. The antenna may find application in SmallSat communications, deep space, and LEO. • The antenna is lightweight, with a mass of 2 grams or less. • The antenna has a low volume, with a size of 1.2 cm3 or less. • The antenna has a low stowage thickness, approximately 0.7 mm. • The antenna offers high performance, with a gain of 10 dBi or higher. • The antenna can be integrated into thin-film solar arrays or other large deployable structures. • Prototypes of the antenna have been fabricated in S-band, X-band, and Ka-band, all of which exhibited high performance.

Budget estimate

$100,000 – $1,000,000

The budget for this opportunity is difficult to estimate, as it involves the licensing of a technology rather than a traditional contract. However, the value of the license could be significant, potentially in the range of $100,000 to $1,000,000 or more, depending on the terms of the license and the commercial success of the technology. Factors that could influence the budget include the scope of the license, the territory covered, and the royalty rate. Additionally, the budget could be structured as a one-time payment, ongoing royalties, or a combination of both.
