Description

The NASA Technology Transfer Program is seeking companies interested in obtaining license rights to commercialize, manufacture, and market the Capacitive Impedance Water Ice Sensor (CIWIS) technology. The CIWIS is a novel method for detecting ice or other material accumulation on the surface of aircraft, and it may also be useful in other applications such as pharmaceutical production, HVAC systems, and cryogenic equipment. The technology is available for patent licensing and has been developed and validated in an industrially relevant environment. • The CIWIS works by measuring the impedance of accumulation using the phase of a smart capacitive sensor. • It can accurately determine when ice, water, or other materials are on the surface of an aircraft. • The technology has a wide range of potential applications beyond aircraft, including pharmaceutical production, HVAC systems, and cryogenic equipment. • NASA provides no funding in conjunction with these potential licenses. • License rights may be issued on an exclusive or nonexclusive basis and may include specific fields of use.

Budget estimate

$100,000 – $1,000,000

The potential budget for this opportunity is difficult to estimate, as it depends on the terms of the license agreement and the commercial success of the CIWIS technology. However, the fact that NASA is seeking companies to license and commercialize the technology suggests that they believe it has significant market potential. The budget could be influenced by factors such as the scope of the license agreement, the size of the market for the CIWIS technology, and the level of competition in the industry. A rough estimate for the budget could be in the range of $100,000 to $1,000,000, depending on the specifics of the agreement and the commercial success of the technology.
