The National Park Service intends to award a single source justified cooperative agreement to the California Conservation Corps for the Watershed Stewards Program Interns at Redwood National Park project. The project aims to provide opportunities for qualified youth to have a safe and educational experience in watershed restoration efforts. The interns will assist Redwood National Park's Resource Management and Science Division with gathering data to support natural resource management and restoration efforts. The project includes tasks such as inventory and monitoring of watershed conditions, monitoring federally listed salmonid species, and GIS and database development to support multidisciplinary and integrated watershed restoration planning.
Some key aspects of the project include:
• Interns will work on a variety of projects, including wetland, riparian, and stream restoration planning and projects
• Interns will support hydrologic monitoring and analyze sediment samples from pristine and restored watersheds
• Interns will learn valuable skills in natural resource fields and learn how data are used to support resource management
• Each intern will complete a Watershed Awareness Project and teach environmental curriculum to local school students
