Description

The City of Rancho Cordova is launching its first artist‑in‑residence program linked to the Zinfandel Bicycle and Pedestrian Overcrossing (ZinBPOC). Six professional artists residing in the United States will be selected to develop temporary public artworks, performances, or installations that engage the community and bridge neighborhoods north and south of Highway 50. Each artist receives a $6,000 stipend plus up to $12,000 for production and installation, and must attend at least six of eight virtual professional‑development workshops between December 2026 and March 2027. The program includes orientation, workshops, a design and permitting phase, and a final project completion deadline of June 30, 2027. Selections are made by a diverse panel, with a Q&A webinar on September 1, 2026 and a final proposal deadline of September 21, 2026. • Six residency slots, each funded up to $18,000 total (stipend + production). • Mandatory virtual workshops (minimum 6 of 8) Dec 2026 – Mar 2027. • Project timeline: proposal due Sep 21 2026 → selection Oct 12 2026 → residency Dec 2026 – Jun 30 2027. • Open to professional artists living in the U.S.; prior public‑art experience optional. • Evaluation based on artistic merit, community‑engagement ability, feasibility, material suitability, and proposal completeness.

Budget estimate

$36,000 – $108,000

The RFP allocates $6,000 in stipend plus up to $12,000 for production per artist, for a maximum of $18,000 each. With six artists, the total contract value could range from $36,000 (if only stipends are paid) to $108,000 (if each receives the full $18,000). Factors influencing the final budget include the scale of each artist’s project, any additional materials or permitting costs, and whether the city awards the full production budget to all participants.
