The United States Air Force Academy (USAFA) is announcing the intent to solicit white papers/proposals for USAFA research efforts through this Broad Agency Announcement (BAA). The BAA provides USAFA an acquisition tool with the flexibility to solicit proposals and make awards to develop technologies to meet present and future Air Force research needs. USAFA invites white papers and proposals for research in many broad areas, including aeronautics, astronautics, biosystems and natural materials, chemistry, computer science, and more. The research program is geared toward providing undergraduates with a rich, relevant research experience while answering critical research needs of the Air Force and the Department of Defense.
Some of the key research areas include:
• Aeronautics: aero-optic control, control of flexible structures, experimental flow control methodologies, fluid-structure interactions, and computational fluid dynamics simulations
• Astronautics: virtual reality and advanced visualization methods, hardware-based lab experiences, and curriculum development
• Biosystems and natural materials: basic research, applied research, advanced technology development, and advanced component development and prototypes
• Chemistry: renewable materials, light harvesting organic electronics, fluoropolymers, energetic composites, and smart coatings
• Computer Science: system security analysis, immersive environments, artificial intelligence and autonomy, and big-data analytics
The BAA is open to business and academia, and USAFA reserves the right to select and fund for award all, some, or none of the white papers/proposals in response to this announcement. All awards are contingent upon funds availability for the program areas identified.
