Description

The Astral Materials TechLeap Orbital Mission aims to advance semiconductor manufacturing techniques and materials consistent with the priorities of CHIPS for America under the CHIPS and Science Act of 2021. The contractor will develop a ground-based prototype of a microgravity-assisted crystal growth furnace capable of enabling the first-ever on-orbit silicon crystal growth. The main objectives of this purchase order are to support the flight samples and terrestrial control samples, compile results into a report correlating process conditions with material quality, and synthesize corresponding control specimens. • The contractor will perform this activity in accordance with accepted industry practices. • No NASA-specific specification applies. • The period of performance is from the award date through September 2028. • The estimated completion date of milestones and payments will be provided by the contractor through quarterly reports.

Budget estimate

$1,000,000 – $5,000,000

The budget for this opportunity is not explicitly stated in the document. However, based on the scope of work and the fact that it is a sole source contract, we can estimate the budget to be in the range of $1 million to $5 million. This estimate is based on the complexity of the project, the duration of the contract, and the fact that it involves the development of a ground-based prototype of a microgravity-assisted crystal growth furnace. The actual budget may vary depending on the specifics of the contract and the negotiations between NASA and the contractor.
