Description

The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) intends to award a sole source contract for the design, fabrication, and testing of insulated-sensing intramyocardial electrosurgical guidewire prototypes. The contractor shall provide design and engineering support, prototype fabrication, bench-level validation, and delivery of refined prototypes suitable for in vivo animal laboratory evaluation. The key objectives of this requirement are to determine the feasibility of an insulated, sensing intramyocardial electrosurgical guidewire through iterative design, fabrication, and testing. • Develop mechanical and electrical design profiles for a 0.014-inch interventional guidewire with enhanced insulation and conductive properties • Design and implement insulation strategies to support electrosurgery and electrogram sensing • Fabricate initial prototype variants for bench evaluation • Perform mechanical and electrical validation testing, including dielectric screening and performance characterization • Iterate the design based on test results and Government feedback • Fabricate and deliver approximately 10–20 refined prototypes suitable for in vivo animal laboratory evaluation • Provide technical support during evaluation and incorporate feedback into final documentation

Budget estimate

$500,000 – $2,000,000

Based on the information provided, it is difficult to estimate the exact budget for this contract. However, considering the scope of work, which includes design, fabrication, and testing of insulated-sensing intramyocardial electrosurgical guidewire prototypes, the budget could be substantial. The contractor will need to provide design and engineering support, prototype fabrication, bench-level validation, and delivery of refined prototypes, which may require significant resources and expertise. Given the complexity of the project and the specialized nature of the work, a reasonable estimate for the budget could be in the range of $500,000 to $2 million. This estimate is based on the assumption that the contractor will need to invest significant time and resources in designing, fabricating, and testing the prototypes, as well as providing technical support during the evaluation phase.
