Description
The Highlands Conservation Act Grant Program provides funding for land conservation projects in the Highlands Region, which includes Connecticut, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania. The program supports the conservation of natural resources, including land and water, and provides funding for projects that protect and restore habitats for fish and wildlife. Eligible applicants include State governments, and the program requires a cost-sharing or matching requirement of 50%. The grant program funds land acquisition projects, and applicants may propose to purchase one or multiple parcels for funding with Base funds.
• Eligible projects must be consistent with areas identified in the Study and Update as having high resource value.
• The total Federal funding request cannot exceed 50% of the total project cost.
• Eligible costs include the acquisition cost of the fee or conservation easement, and certain typical land transaction costs.
• A State may use up to five percent of a grant award to administer the specific land conservation partnership projects funded by this award.
