Description

The Newark Board of Education is seeking a qualified contractor to replace the entire site‑drainage system at Malcolm X Shabazz High School. The scope includes demolition and removal of existing underground drainage assets, remediation of any contaminated soil, and installation of new storm‑water pipes, catch basins, and outlet structures. Work must be coordinated to limit disruption to school operations and will likely occur after hours or on weekends. The contract is subject to New Jersey prevailing‑wage rules, requires a 10 % bid bond (max $20 k), 100 % performance and payment bonds, and extensive insurance and safety plans (dust‑control, AHERA asbestos notification, hazardous‑material handling).

Budget estimate

$500,000 – $2,000,000

The solicitation does not disclose a contract value. Comparable school drainage replacement projects in the Newark area typically range from $500 k to $2 M depending on site conditions, length of pipe, and remediation requirements. Given the need for hazardous‑material handling and a 128‑day schedule, a reasonable estimate is $0.5 M‑$2 M.
