Description

This NASA Johnson Space Center solicitation seeks proposals to develop and validate approaches for surveilling, reducing risk of, and preventing or treating venous thrombosis (VT) in astronauts during spaceflight and exploration missions. The effort encompasses applied research on pre‑flight screening, in‑flight monitoring, biomarker analysis, and mechanical countermeasures, with deliverables defined in the Performance Work Statement. The contract will be firm‑fixed‑price with up to four one‑year option periods extending the total performance to a maximum of five years. • Develop and validate VT surveillance methods (e.g., duplex ultrasound protocols, biomarker panels). • Design and evaluate mechanical countermeasures such as lower‑body negative pressure devices or venous occlusion cuffs. • Produce a comprehensive risk‑assessment framework and recommendations for NASA’s Human Research Program.

Budget estimate

$2,000,000 – $5,000,000

No award ceiling was disclosed; comparable NASA R&D contracts for similar biomedical research typically range from a few million dollars up to $5‑6 million over a multi‑year period. Considering the three‑year base period plus optional years, a realistic estimate is roughly $2 million to $5 million in total contract value.
