The Department of the Navy, Naval Surface Warfare Center, Carderock Division (NSWCCD) is seeking potential sources to design, build, test, document, and deliver prototype Geiger-Mueller (GM) tubes. The GM tubes are needed for use in the Multi-Function RADIAC (MFR) survey meter used throughout the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program. The MFR has been in use for over 20 years with over 10,000 units in the field, but the current GM tube has become more unreliable with increased failure rate. The NSWCCD aims to find an alternative, accurate, and durable GM tube to sustain the MFR.
• The GM tubes should have a sensitivity of 270 cpm at 1 mR/h, a recommended operating voltage of 460 volts, and a plateau length of 420-520 volts.
• The GM tubes should have a dead time of 60 microseconds, a background of 25 cpm, and an operating temperature range of -20 to +60 degrees Celsius.
• The GM tubes should be packaged at the contractor's facility and delivered to the Naval Surface Warfare Center Carderock Division.
• The initial delivery should include three GM tubes, and the option delivery should include five GM tubes.
• The period of performance for the initial delivery is 180 days, and the period of performance for the option delivery is 90 days.
