The National Park Service intends to award a single source justified cooperative agreement for the Lower B500 Road Removal in Redwood National Park project. The project aims to remove 0.8 miles of a former logging haul road and restore the hill slope topography, hydrology, and improve water quality for designated critical habitat for three federally listed anadromous salmonids. The project will also protect 8.2 acres of riparian forest along the main stem of Larry Damm Creek. The recipient, the Yurok Tribe, will be responsible for providing equipment and personnel to remove the road, excavate and stabilize fill material, and remove bridges and abutments. The National Park Service will oversee the project and provide technical assistance.
Key aspects of the project include:
• Road removal and restoration
• Habitat improvement for anadromous salmonids
• Protection of riparian forest
• Removal of bridges and abutments
• Stabilization of fill material
• Technical assistance from the National Park Service
