Description

The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) is seeking information from sources that may be capable of providing a solution for a coincident gamma ray detection system. The system consists of two scintillation detectors, one for gamma rays and the other for combined neutron/gamma, along with their associated photomultiplier tubes. The detectors will be used in a neutron/gamma field generated by a portable neutron generator for quantitative elemental determination in semiconductor bulk material. Some key points to consider: • The system should be able to minimize background gamma rays for an improved signal-to-noise ratio and enhanced detection limit for critical elements in semiconductor material. • The proposed portable neutron generator-based prompt gamma activation analysis (PGAA) should be suitable for elements with high capture cross-sections. • Companies responding to this notice should provide information about their equipment, including technical specifications, performance capabilities, and any customization options. • Respondents should also indicate whether their equipment is manufactured in the United States and provide details about any plans for changes in manufacturing location.

Budget estimate

$200,000 – $1,000,000

Given the complexity of the equipment and the specific requirements outlined in the notice, the budget for this opportunity could range from $200,000 to $1,000,000. This estimation is based on the cost of similar laboratory equipment, such as scintillation detectors and photomultiplier tubes, as well as the potential for customization and additional services like installation and maintenance. The actual budget could be higher or lower, depending on the specific solutions proposed by respondents and the final requirements determined by NIST.
