Description

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is seeking a handheld X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) spectrometric device to measure and determine the presence and elemental concentrations in soils and sediment deposits. The device must be able to detect elemental distributions to identify potential rare earth ores, sensitive wasted dredged deposits, and assess the chemical makeup of in-tack and weathered geological materials. The XRF device must meet specific requirements, including overall weight, dimensions, X-ray excitation, beam spot size, and detector energy resolution. The device should also have a touch screen, built-in connectivity, and geotagging with GPS capability. • The XRF device must be able to detect a variety of elements, including alkali metals, alkaline earth metals, metalloids, post-transition metals, transition metals, lanthanides, and reactive non-metals. • The device must have a minimum X-ray excitation of Gold (AU) anode, 55 kV, 100 uA, 5 W X-ray Tube Beam. • The device must have a Silicon Drift Detector (SDD) with a minimum active area size of 50-mm2 and energy resolution of 140 eV at 5.95 Mn K-alpha line. • The device must have a built-in connectivity of Wifi and Bluetooth, and geotagging with GPS capability. • The device must have a user-level password protection and administrative privileges for settings.

Budget estimate

$50,000 – $200,000

The budget for this opportunity is likely to be in the range of $50,000 to $200,000. This estimate is based on the fact that the opportunity requires a handheld X-Ray Fluorescence device, which is a specialized piece of equipment. The cost of such a device can vary widely depending on the manufacturer, model, and features. Additionally, the opportunity includes a customer care program with a minimum 1-yr with 2-yr extended option offered, which may also impact the overall cost. The factors that may influence the likely payment range include the complexity of the device, the number of units required, and the level of service and support required.
