Description

The City of Santa Cruz is soliciting contractors to perform a comprehensive streetscape upgrade at multiple unsignalized intersections. The work includes installing concrete curbs, gutters, sidewalks, curb ramps, roadway signs, pedestrian‑activated beacons (RRFBs), striping, pavement markings, utility relocation, and related site work. The contractor must supply all labor, materials, tools, equipment, and transportation, and must hold a Class A contractor’s license and a current city business license. The scope covers demolition of existing curb/sidewalk elements, installation of new concrete structures, placement of traffic control devices, and compliance with city, state, and Caltrans standards. The project is broken into several “vaults” (e.g., Delaware Ave/Bethany Curve, King St/Peyton St, etc.) with detailed quantity take‑offs for signs, beacons, pull boxes, conduit, and other items. • Install new concrete curbs, gutters, sidewalks, and curb ramps (Class A concrete, monolithic pours where possible). • Provide pedestrian‑activated rapid flashing beacons (RRFB) and push‑button assemblies. • Relocate and install traffic signs, signal poles, and utility pull boxes per Caltrans specifications. • Perform utility verification, demolition, grading, and back‑filling as required. • Apply detectable warning surfaces, pavement striping, and paint finishes. • Ensure compliance with ADA, MUTCD, and city standard specifications.

Budget estimate

$1,200,000 – $3,500,000

The bid package includes extensive concrete work, multiple traffic control devices, utility relocations, and site preparation across several street segments. Based on similar municipal streetscape projects in California, a total contract value is likely in the low‑to‑mid‑million‑dollar range (approximately $1.2 M to $3.5 M). Factors influencing the final amount include the quantity of concrete (volume of curbs/sidewalks), the number of RRFBs and push‑button assemblies, utility relocation costs, and any unforeseen subsurface conditions.
