Description

The United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) is announcing a funding opportunity for cooperative agreements to control and prevent chronic wasting disease (CWD) in wild cervids. The funding opportunity is open to state departments of agriculture, state animal health agencies, state departments of wildlife or natural resources, federally recognized Native American Tribal governments, and research institutions. The goal of the funding opportunity is to support the development and implementation of CWD surveillance, testing, management, and response activities. The funding priorities include improving the management of CWD-affected wild cervid populations, improving the management of wild cervid CWD-affected areas, conducting research on amplification assays, developing predictive genetics for wild cervids, and delivering educational outreach materials. Some key points to consider: • Eligible applicants must have regulatory oversight or direct responsibility for wild cervids. • Cost sharing is not required, but APHIS may consider an eligible entity’s ability to contribute non-Federal funds. • The performance period will begin on or before September 30, 2024, and should end no later than twelve months after the start date. • Allowable costs include personnel, fringe benefits, travel, equipment, supplies, and contractual services. • Applicants must submit a detailed Financial Plan that provides sufficient information to determine the costs for each proposed project activity.

Budget estimate

$50,000 – $250,000

The total amount to be awarded is around $5,500,000, and the average award in 2023 was $171,777. The funding opportunity is expected to support approximately thirty cooperative agreements, with each award ranging from $50,000 to $250,000. The actual budget will depend on the number of awards made and the amount of each award. Based on this information, a reasonable estimate for the budget range would be between $50,000 and $250,000. However, the actual budget could be higher or lower, depending on the number of awards made and the amount of each award. Factors that may influence the likely payment range include the number of eligible applicants, the quality of the proposals, and the availability of funds.
