The Department of Fish and Game, Division of Fisheries and Wildlife, invites sealed bids for the Century Bog Restoration Project in Wareham/Plymouth, Massachusetts. The project consists of river and peat bog restoration, including demolition of water control structures, earthwork, temporary water control, and revegetation. The estimated project value is $3,000,000. A mandatory pre-bid conference and site showing will be conducted on March 6, 2026. Bidders must submit their bids by March 27, 2026, at 11:00 AM. The contract time for substantial completion is 240 days.
• The project involves restoration of naturalized stream channels, wetlands, and associated habitats to benefit wildlife and aquatic resources.
• The project includes removal of eight culverts and six earthen berms within the bog system.
• The stream will be realigned to reestablish natural stream function and habitat complexity.
• Large woody material will be strategically installed to enhance in-stream habitat.
• Anthropogenically placed sand will be removed from portions of the bog surface and reused to fill perimeter ditches and regrade wetland and pond margins.
• The bog surfaces will be roughened to varying degrees to increase topographic complexity and promote more natural hydrologic and vegetative conditions.
• Restoration will largely rely on the re-emergence of native vegetation from the buried seed bank.
• In areas where erosion control or accelerated habitat establishment is needed, native vegetation will be introduced through seeding, container planting, or live staking.
• Additional excavated sand will be used to create gently sloping sandplain grassland habitats adjacent to the restored wetlands.
• The project includes invasive plant management using herbicide application and hand-pulling, as well as mowing and prescribed fire.
