Sun and Soil Program

The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) is soliciting proposals to accelerate agrivoltaic (solar‑plus‑agriculture) projects and on‑farm solar‑plus‑battery systems that sustain New York agriculture. The Sun and Soil Program (PON 6206) offers four funding categories—(A) solar‑and‑agriculture integration, (B) barrier‑removal research, (C) capacity‑building, and (D) equity‑focused access—covering planning/feasibility work (minimum 50 kW dc) and implementation (minimum 100 kW dc). Awards range from $20 k to $350 k per project, with up to $10 million available across two rounds (Dec 10 2026 and Apr 20 2027). Eligible applicants include farmers, agrivoltaic specialists, solar developers, research institutions, NGOs, municipalities, and out‑of‑state entities provided the on‑site work occurs in New York. Proposals must include a cover letter, project narrative, budget form (Attachment A), and, for on‑ground projects, a Site Control and Access Form (Attachment C). Submissions are electronic, must be searchable PDFs, and are due by 3 PM ET on the listed dates. Annual metrics reporting (by Jan 31) and a three‑year data‑sharing obligation are required. • Minimum solar capacity: 50 kW dc for planning, 100 kW dc for implementation. • Funding covers incremental agrivoltaic costs, battery storage, permitting, and related research/education activities. • No cost‑share required but encouraged; in‑kind contributions accepted. • Award notification 12–16 weeks after deadline; contract periods 1–2 years (planning) or 2–4 years (implementation).
