Description

This contract calls for a subcontractor to install, monitor, and manage a recirculating tailwater system across multiple rice farm demonstration sites, collect water‑quality and agronomic data, and conduct extensive farmer outreach. The work spans a 42‑month period starting January 2027 and includes quarterly reporting and data delivery obligations. • Install and maintain water‑level sensors, telemetry, and autonomous pump systems at at least 12 paired rice field sites (minimum three pairs per year). • Collect and process runoff water samples, grain‑yield metrics, and economic data; provide datasets within 30 days of collection and quarterly progress reports. • Conduct extension activities including one‑on‑one farmer meetings, presentations at the MSU Row‑Crop Short Course and national conferences, and produce outreach summaries with audience metrics. • Perform site visits at least every 14 days, de‑commission equipment after irrigation ends, and notify MSU of any equipment failures within 12 hours.

Budget estimate

$500,000 – $1,500,000

No monetary figures are disclosed, but the scope includes multi‑site equipment procurement, installation, ongoing telemetry maintenance, agronomic data collection, analysis, and extensive outreach over 42 months. Assuming 3–4 field teams, each with labor costs (~$150 k/yr), equipment and sensor costs (~$200 k total), data management and reporting (~$100 k), and outreach expenses (~$50 k), the total contract value likely falls between $0.5 million and $1.5 million.
